Marriage Helps to Increase Your Life Span After Heart Surgery

It has been found that married couples have a greater chance of living up to 15 years after one of them undergoes a coronary bypass when compared to single men and women. Although there is no valid proof about this finding, there is no doubt about the fact that having a mate is extremely reassuring and helps the spouse to recuperate faster. Researches conducted in this area also reveals that being married hikes up your chances of fighting against colon cancer and even aids to lower the aches in rheumatoid arthritis victims.
Scientists conducted a research into 225 people who were victims of coronary bypass surgery between 1987 and 1990. It was discovered that 55% got their life span extended up to the next fifteen years of which 61% of the people were married while only 30% were single. It was also found that not many people in unhappy marriages survived as compared to people who were happily settled. Only 26% of women and 60% of men in such marriages got a good extension of their lifespan.
The main reason behind married people or people in a long term committed relationship having a longer life span may be due to the fact that they make sure that their spouse is having his or her medicines regularly and eat more nutritious food. On the other hand single people do not take much care about themselves especially if they cross the age of sixty which makes them careless about their health. This finding may help to solve some mechanisms behind the relation between good marriage and health.
